In September of 1969, my brother, Murray Eiland, and I opened one of the first of a new breed of oriental rug store run by neither Armenians nor Persians and devoted primarily to old rugs. In January of 1972, after a buying trip to Afghanistan, the Oriental Rug Company of Berkeley  released its first monthly Newsletter. As were all but a few of the issues, it was written by Murray. Now, nearly thirty years later, I am looking over the old newsletters to see what interest they might have for us.
